Chairman Technical Committee of the West African University Games (WAUG), Nick Igbokwe has extolled the virtue of Ambassador Uche Onwude for his contribution towards the hockey event at the just concluded school sports games held at University of Ilorin , Kwara State.
The waug chief stated this while appreciating Ambassador Onwude, the chairman Omenka Foundation for donating a trophy to the hockey event at the quadrennial games.
The ex-while OAU Sports Council boss noted that Ambassador Onwude demonstrated great passion in enhancing the development of the hockey among the university students knowing that there is a trophy for them at the end of the competition.
He called on other sports philanthropists and corporate bodies to support the game of hockey and other sports by identify with any one of their choice as did by Ambassador Onwude to boost sports across the country.
Meanwhile, at the final of the hockey event played at the Unilorin sandy pitch, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife won the gold medal after emerged victorious over University Of Ghana, Legon 2 -1 in the keenly contested final to lift the trophy while University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) won the bronze medal.
