"The investment on the boxing gym would make a very strong statement for our readiness as a state and hopefully as a country to take back out leadership position for the African continent.So that we begin to see the benefit of this investment and three years of boxing hall of Fame and the National Sports Festival where we will be very very proud and hopefully successfully host in November."

While speaking at the unveiling of the ultra modern boxing hall at Ikate, Surulere, the Governor, said the first of its kind boxing gym in Nigeria, said the boxing equipment would set a strong footing of his administration's readiness to prepare hard and work for the next four years with a view of surprising the world especially in boxing.
"It provides us the opportunity to support the establishment of facilities.Everytime we have international and we end up fire brigade approach.We rush players to camp in less than two months and we expect them to win.With this facility, where athletes can train on daily basis, nine months, one year, two years before competing in championships."
Fashola, who commended Prince Ademola Adeniji- Adele, the former Sports Commissioner, Wale Edun, the Initiator and Wahid Enitan Oshodi, the current sports commissioner, for their commitment towards the development of grassroot sports,said the concept was a testimony of his regime commitment to achievement particularly in boxing.

We don't dismantle all they have achieved because e are fragile Eagles.But having said this,Mr Edun, has told me that he was going to shock and surprise us"
According to him, the Lagos State is not only concentrating on football as other sports such as Squash, Swimming, Athletics and Beach Soccer are receiving government attention because he understands the value of sports in nation building in the development of minds and physique of young people.
He said the gym would create a platform for Nigerian boxers to train on daily basis for couple of months prior to an international competitions, adding that the fire brigade of Nigerian athletes to an international events such as as the Olympic, Commonwealth and All African Games have affected the growth of sports in the nation.
