IGP, Keshi Plot Eagles Rise As Saviour Replaces Gwar

Written By sportsweight.blogspot.com on Thursday, August 23, 2012 | 11:43 PM

Super Eagles boss, Stephen Keshi, has praised the massive support the national team has been receiving from sports loving, Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar.

Keshi spoke at the weekend when he paid the Inspector General an Eid El Fitri visit. He described the IGP as one of the most supportive public officials of the national team, thanking him for gracing the team’s last encounter against Rwanda in Calabar, which the team won 2-0.

The national team coach assured that the team will not let down the nation in its quest to qualify for the World Cup 2014 and the Nations Cup in 2013, urging the IGP not to relent in his support for the national side.

“As a former board member of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), it is instructive that years after you stopped being a board member your love for the national team and football has not waned despite your tight schedule, we assure that we will not let you down”, he said.

Keshi also praised the vision of the Police High Command in setting up sports and football clubs across the states of the federation, noting that he was impressed when the Super Eagles recently played a friendly against Police Machine Fc of Abuja, who are the FCT Federations Cup champions.

Reacting, Mohammed thanked Keshi for the visit and assured that he would continue to support the national team, as football remains his everlasting passion.

He also revealed that he has been in touch with many state governors to help fund and support sports and particularly football as that will impact positively on the security situation in the country.

“I know the capacity of sports to impact positively on the security situation in the country and we are working in concert with state governors to set up sports and football clubs that will engage our youths and help reduce crime to the barest minimum.

He assured that he would be at the Super Eagles next qualifier game, declaring that with men like Keshi, the national team will go places in the coming months. Meanwhile, the national team technical crew has moved swiftly to replace NPL goleador, Sibi Gwar with Taraba FC striker, Saviour Fidelis.

The light-skinned striker joined camp on Tuesday night and was part of Wednesday’s morning training session, where he showed flashes of a player worth calling up for the national team.

Gwar, has reportedly left for Israel to tie a professional contract with Bnei Yehuda, the club that pays the wages of goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba.
