The Assistant Coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles, Daniel Amokachi, has expressed his displeasure over the performance of the home based Super Eagles as they showed signs of heaviness in a match against National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, of Abuja.
The NYSC side actually drew the first blood in only the second minute of the match when Nwowu Ikenna, sleek dribbles in the Eagles vital area ended on the legs of teammate, Omefe Ifeanyi, who scored the first goal.
The goal jolted the national team to reality and four minutes later, Mfom Udoh, equalized after which the NYSC team took the lead through Eugene Utom.
Kingsley Sokari scored a brace while Mfom Udoh scored another goal to make the scoreline four- two before Christian Osas Ighodalo scored the last goal.
The former Super Eagles striker, says the match showed that there is more work needed to be done before the international friendlies against Cote D'Ivoire and Sudan in Abu Dhabi.
“If you concede such an early goal against an experienced side like Cote D’ Ivoire you will be in trouble because you will have to chase the game all day”, he said.
Chief Coach of NYSC, Rotimi Salau, said a match was not enough to judge the national team but noted that the team needed to improve on its tactical and technical abilities.
He said with the quality of players he saw in the game, the current home based national side has a bright future.
