Warrior Basketball team has won the Saturday Monthly BBasketball Championship which came to a close on Saturday at the basketball court of the Lagos State Sports Council, Rowe Park, Yaba.
Warrior Basketball club secured 28 points ahead of D.O.C Basketball club that clinched 26 points in an event which featured eight basketball clubs in the state as Warrior Basketball team went home with fifty thousand naira while D.O.C Basketball team got Thirty thousand naira.
The Senior Speacial Assistant to the Governor on Grassroot Sports, Prince Wale Oladunjoye, said the competition would now become a regular Saturday competition and better organise than previous editions.
Oladunjoye, said Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, has made it mandatory that there should be egualr sporting activities in the state apart from football.
He added that the competition had been in existence for a while but the state wants to expand its scope to make it beffiting.
The Secretary of the Lagos State Basketball Association, Uthman OKunnu, said the competition has become a platform for the Association to discover talents as it would also afford young basketball players the opportunity to acquire experience as former Nigerian basketball players are also part of the tourney.
The Chairman of Basketball Supporters Club, Abimbola Faniran, said te Six -A - Side basketball tournament was an all comers event which is geared at keeping the basketball players busy once a month on a regular basis.
