The Ibeju Lekki Local Government has said the council's proposed new Stadium will help to rebrand and build a virile sporting activites in the local government and its environs.
Its Chairman, Prince Bayo Balogun, made this statement when the council was honouring the council athletes who won the last held Lagos State Sports Festival tagged "IBILE 2010" and the Cricket players who won the last Cricket tournament in the state.
About one hundred fifty athletes were honoured yesterday as they were financially motivated.
Balogun, whose Local Government had donated acres of land to construct a stadium which would houses a Cricket oval, football field among other, said the council's athletes and the cricket players had made them proud in all the tournamnet they had registered for.
He said the feat was a result of their commitment to the development of sports and also they were able to design a solid welfare package for their wards which has made them to give their best when ever they feature in any tournament.
He said the council decided to donated the acres of land for sports development because the people Ibeju Lekki deserve to have to themselves a befitting stadium where they would be able to perfect their skills, adding that the nearest stadium to them is the Onikan Stadum and it is necessary to have a sports complex this is similar to the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
He said the council's decision to name Chief Molade Okoya Thomas as the Committee Chairman of the stadium, was to help the council through his weight in the society to attract private, corporate and government support in construccting the stadium in good time.
The Onibeju Of Ibeju Lekki, Segun Salami, said the outstanding victories of their athletes at various tournaments was because they are endowed with credible athletes couple with theunflinching support of Prince Bayo Balogun whose administratio has empowered the youth through sports.
