Winners of the third season of MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship are expected to have arrive Souh Africa today ahead o the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The teams departed Nigeria yesterday through Arik Airline around 12 midnight alongside the Main Organising Committee and Ministry of Youths, Sports and Social Development officials.
The Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social development, Prince Ademola Adeniji Adele, while presenting the teams to Media, said the players were the worthy ambassadors of Lagos and Nigeria having showcase thier talents to earn them a trip to South Africa where they would watch the first ever FIFA World Cup on an African soil.
Adele, said the trip to South Africa was part of the agreement signed with the proud sponsor of the tournament, MTN Nigeria, that the eventual winners would embark on a trip of South Africa, adding that the State has been able to redeem its promises of taking the players to South Africa.
Representative of MTN Nigeria, Saidat Lawal, said he telecommunication would never relent in its efforts to add value and expand te coast of the youths who are endowed with special skills to excel hence the reason the communication firm partner the Lagos State Government to help build a virile platform for football development.
Lawal, assured that the fourth season which would kick start in November, would be more attractive than previous editions as plans are in top gear to empower the winners with a tricycle, Maruti brand, for the players as well as the teams Managers.
According to her, winners of the third season would have the opportunity to play friendlies in South Africa with some football academies as she opines that some of the players could grab an lucrative offers.
