The Lagos State Basketball teams in the male and female categories have qualified to feature in the National Sports Festival billed for Febuary, 2011 in Rivers State.

The state's Basketball teams outplayed their counterparts from Ogun and Oyo States to book tickets for the Games in Rivers State.

According to the result made available to Arena Sports by the officials of National Sports Commission, Zone One, South West, Lagos State won the female slot in Volleyball as the state grabbed all the slots in the Handball event in the male and female events.

In Abula, Lagos State managed to pick the Mixed doubles slot after losing the male and female slots as the fate of the State female Hockey team is handing in the balance following the protest against the squad having won Ogun State by a lone and playing barren draw against Oyo State.

The state female Hockey team is still waiting on the outcome of the jury's verdict based on the protest against Ogun State for parading four Police female hockey players.

Sportsweight.blogspot.com, reports that the Lagos State female football team which has potential to feature in the National Sports Festival in Rivers State lost on protes from Ogun State having beat Ogun and Oyo States in the zonal elimination.

According to the protest, Lagos State featured four established female football players who had played in the National Female league, a move which contradict the rules and regulations of te Sports Festival.

Similar, the Lagos State male team which won its first group match against Ogun State by a lone goal lost its bid to qualify for the Games after playing barren draw against Oyo State as the Oluyole Boys beat Ogun State by four goals to One to scale through on goals aggregate.

Sportsweight.blogspot.com, revealed that the Lagos State Sports Council under the leadership of Agboola Dabiri still have a lot of roles to play in the forthcoming National Sports Festival as the outcome of the inter zonal in Sagamu was a blessing in disguise towards the Rivers 2011 Games.

According to the Sports Council, the preparations towards the zonal elimination was very tight and timely but it fails tomaterialise during the Zonal elimination as there is need to regenerate the affected sports Association.

The Sports Council has to be blamed for what happened as there were role conflict against constituted Sports Association especiall the original actor of football in the state, Lagos State Football Association.

Before now, investigation carried out by Sportsweight.blogspot.com,revealed that the Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Council, Agbooola Dabiri, had employ a coach who speacialised in female football, Basil, to handle the team.

Following his appointment, Basil swung into action as he sought a sponsor who doled out money for the coach to engage the team in friendlies as the State female squad played series of matches in Ibadan, Oyo State to fortify the squad.

Having waken up from its slumber, the officials of the Lagos State Football Association condenmed the act through a letter which was written to the Sports Council, thus the Sports Council has to call the LSFA to a meeting where it resolved that Anne Echejiene, an Assistant coach of Super Falcons was appointed as the Chief Coach with the support of Okuwa while Basil would remain as the third coach.

Upon her arrival, four big female football players were included in the team, a move which contradicted the rules and regulations of the Games which is aimed at developing sports at the grassroot level.

We gathered that Anne discarded the team Basil has been grooming prior to the zonal elimination in Sgamu, Ogun State.

The Male football team which was handled by Lukman Oshun was absolutely not the squad that played, a Premier League side,Sunshine Stars of Akure, Bridge Boys F.C, among others.

Sportsweight.blogspot.com, reports that officials of LSFA were aggrieved that their submission on the team was not adhere to as it was being reported that the Sports Council too the responsibility of the LSFA by instructing the coaches to report o the council.

Some of the LSFA officials, Tajudeen Oladeji, Dotun Coker, who painstaking monitor the team's screening and training sessions were not happy over the final selection but the impact was much felt because the sports council has placed the coaches under their control.

But the fact remains that the coaches are also saboteur because they know the exact constituted authourity when it comes to football issue but they decided to align with the Sports Council so as to cover their atrocities as they pave the way for selection of undeserved players to be in Sgamu while the best football players in camp were threw out.

On the protest against the Lagos State Female and Male Football teams was justified as the Ogun State Commissioner for Sports, Bukola Olapade, had informed the officials of the Lagos State that about three female players who had played for a national league club are being featured in the zonal elimination while a male football player who had played for Gateway United F.C was also paraded.

Olopade, could be anything in the mind of Lagos State officials but should OZOGULA be blamed for protesting against Lagos State when its officials should have prevented such from happening to a state that do organise regular sporting activities ranging from the annual MTN Street Soccer Championship, Adopt - A - Talent, Saturday Monthly Boxing Hall of Fame, Boska Cup, Asoju Oba Table Tennis Championship, Swimming among others.
