Flying Eagles overcome Ghana

Written By sportsweight.blogspot.com on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 | 2:29 AM

The death of Super Eagles’ defender, Olubayo Adefemi in an automobile crash in Greece took the shine off the national Under 20 team, Flying Eagles’ 2-1 win over world champions Ghana in the opening match of Group B of the 17th African Youth Championship in South Africa on Monday.

Adefemi died when he lost control of the car he was driving between Xanthi an Thessaloniki where he was aiming to board a flight to Nigeria to come finalize his marriage plans.

Powerful Enugu Rangers’ forward Uche Nwofor scored one goal in each half to render meaningless a 32nd minute striker by Ghana’s Kwame Nsor. Nigeria now has three points from that win and should wrap up a place in the semi finals and the FIFA U-20 World Cup with another win over Cameroon on Thursday.
