Platinum Sports and Games Association and Lagos State Traditional Sports Association are concluded all arrangement to organise the maiden Igbogbo/Baiyeku Traditional Games Championship.
The tourney which is being facilitated by Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Sports Development to Governor Raji Fashola will hold next Tuesday at Methodist Primary School, Igbogbo.
Chairman of the Platinum Association, Comrade Abass Lateef, said that the one day tourney would feature Draughts, Ayo Olopon, Ludo, Ram Charging and Gidigbo-a traditional wrestling contest.
"We have been receiving entries from a large number of people who are excited that Governor Fashola is taking traditional games down to Igbogbo/Baiyeku and his environs. It is going to be a big events with a lot of attraction," said Comrade Abass.
"Among dignitaries expected at the event are the Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Government Development Area, Hon. Obasanya, Alhaji Wasiu Yusuf Laiga, Coordinator Raji Fashola Fans Club in London, Barrister Olorunfunmi Bashorun, a leader of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN in Ikorodu Division and His Royal Highness Oba J.P. Fatola, the Adeboruwa of Igbogboland," he said.
Speaking on the preparation ahead of the championship, Prince Wale Oladunjoye, the Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Fashola, said that "the train of traditional sports which has been moving to some local governments in Lagos will hit Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA on 2 May.
The state government wants a genuine development of sports at the grassroots, that is why Governor Fashola believes that resuscitation of the traditional games will not only bring back the memories of the olden days but keep people busy at the grassroots."
