It was celebration galore as Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Ugbor, Benin-City over the weekend recorded another victory as its emerged winner of the 4th Nigeria Private University Games Association (NPUGA) hosted by Western Delta University, (WDU), Oghara, Delta State.
The president of NPUGA,John Okoro made this announcement during the closing ceremony held at Oghara Township stadium, Oghara, Delta State in which dignitaries including the Vice-chancellor of the victorious university, Professor MacDonald Idu and other top functionary officials of participating institutions were in attendance.
The Benin based university was confirmed with of the games with 39 gold, 23 silver and 17 bronze medals totaling 79 medals hereby lifted the newly donated trophy by Alhaja Rasheedat Oladimeji, wife of the proprietor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.
The Team BIU under the chairmanship of Barrister Oyekanmi Adewoye has now won the game for the fourth consecutive time having emerged champions at the last three editions of the games held at Igbinedion University, Okada (2005), Lead City University, Ibadan (2007) and American University of Nigeria, Yola (2009) respectively.
Placing second is the host university, WDU with total of 87 medals comprises of 24 gold, 31 silver, and 32 bronze despite all entreaties to host and win the games while Igbinedion University, Okada rested at the third position with 12 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals at the end of the games that had nine universities in attendance.
Speaking to Sportsweight.blogspot.com after the victory ceremony, BIU Vice-chancellor, Professor MacDonald Idu gave thanks to Almighty God for the victory recorded by the team. “It is obvious that we are always being on top and we will continue to be on top, because we are not threatened by any form of our position,”
“It is a good game afterall, though it has its own hiccup, but we always see that in sports and we survived it by coming first in all events, our success in the games is a top secret and we are leading the change. As a Christian University, we raise academics, professionals and entrepreneurs who will be effective disciples for Christ by excelling in their fields.
