Chairman House Committee on Youth, Sports and Social Development, Honourable Babtunde Ayeni has said the Lagos State House of Assembly will as a matter of urgency review law prohibiting smoking of Indian hemp at the recreation centres of the state.
Ayeni, who made this known during committee’s visit to the office of Youth and Social Development and the Ministry at Alausa, as part of his familiarization visit, said “The House had received complains and petitions on the activities of hoodlums and miscreants who have turned various sport centres in the state.
The Lawmaker who frowned at this development said the House through its committee would review establishing recreation centres.
A member of the committee, Honourable Lanre Ogunyemi representing Ojo constituency 11, narrated his experience on how miscreants defaced Public schools in his constituencycy with faeces turning it into public Toilets.
Ogunyemi, implored the office of Youth and Social Development to urgently address the matter.
Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development, Enitan Oshodi said his Ministry is preparing for the successful hosting of the National Sports Festival which is scheduled for November this year.
He noted that” Adequate preparation is in the top gear to ensure that the state does not leave any stone unturned during the Festival”.
Enitan promised the committee on better cordial relationship that would develop and promote sporting activities in Lagos State.
In his reaction, Special Adviser on Youth and social Development, Dolapo Badru told the committee that efforts are being made to tackle the issue. he said “Anybody found perpetrating this act will be dealt with according to the law”.
The committee thereafter visited the Lagos State Sports Council,Rowe Park, Yaba where last Monday rainstorm scattered roof tops and damage other things.
the committee promised the management that all the affected areas will be repaired before the commencement of the Sports Festival in November.
