Confederation of African Tennis, CAT,has rewarded Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, for sustaining and supporting the successive staging of the Governor's Cup Lagos Tennis Championship since assuming office in May 2007.
The Confederation through Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, had in a letter, informed Governor Fashola of being a recipient of Long and Outstanding Contribution to the game of Tennis Award to be presented in Cairo,Egypt, on Thursday.
The NTF congratulated the Governor for this award and wished that he would receive many of such by the Grace of God.
Meanwhile, Governor Fashola, through his Chief of Staff, Lanre Babalola, has written to appreciate CAT for given him the recognition and the award.
He assured the African tennis body of the Lagos State Government's support to the development of the game.
It would be recalled that the Governor's Cup, an International Tennis Federation, ITF, approved circuit with 80,000 dollars prize money, has continued to attract emerging world tennis stars to Lagos since inception 12 years ago.
More importantly, the support of Governor Fashola since he came to office has attracted the sponsorship of leading telecommunication company, Etisalat and foremost new generation bank, FCMB with other co sponsors to boost its organisations in the past few years.
The tournament enters its 12th edition this year and the Local Organising Committee, LOC, headed by Chief Pius Akinyelure has promised a glamorous tournament in October.
