Reports in the media had it that
unidentified men invaded the dressing room of the visiting team, attacked and
inflicted severe body injuries on the players and officials.
Amid
fears that league venues in the country could no longer guarantee the right
security for players, officials and spectators, Philip Obaji, 1 GAME founder
and Executive Director on Sunday said: “The situation in the Nigeria Premier
League (NPL) is worrying, you’d rather not want to be seen at match venues.
“Obviously,
we strongly condemn Saturday’s attack on players and officials of Ocean Boys.
Such a situation is unacceptable. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who
were injured,” he added in a statement.
“This
is an attack not only on innocent people but on the image of the NPL and we
call for full investigation and holding those responsible to account.
“We
share the concerns about the threat that violence posses. And this is among the
reasons we cooperate so strongly with the NPL in term of not only security
support but also advocacy and educational support for followers of football,”
he concluded
