The management of Adopt-A-Talent Sports Programme has held a one day seminar for its coaches and athletes.
The seminar titled "Sensitization of coaches on first aid treatment for injured and sick athlete and the legal right of a child athlete, was recently held at the Sports Bar of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Series of papers were presented by speakers who included Lagos State Commissioner for Sports, Enitan Oshodi, who spoke on the "Right of a Child Athlete".
According to Oshodi, the strongest and most dominant influence in the life of a child athlete is the coach, who is the athlete's closet advisor, a mentor, a leader, a teacher, possessing the ability to build the athlete or draw him down.
The Commissioner recalled that in December, 2011, the United Nations commissioned "The World Record on Violence Against Children, which was based on the premise that 'no violence against boys or girls is justifiable and all violence is preventable.
Mrs. Olubunmi Fayemi, a Lawyer, in her paper, "The Legal Rights of A Child Athlete", said the lives of children were no private matter but public concern which can be met by fostering children's right.
Akin George talked on " First Aid Treatment for Injured Athlete, while Prince Wale Oladunjoye, the Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, said the seminar would go a long way in putting the programme on the right pedestal
