Cameroon and Tottenham Hotspurs of England left back, Benoît Pierre David Assou-Ekotto has thrown his weight behind the hosting of first ever Ekofootball Festival billed for September in Lagos.
Assou-Ekotto accompanied by Francis Nkwain and the C.E.O. Storm 360, Obi Asika commended the Lagos State Football Association over its efforts to develop soccer at the grassroots, stressing that such moves will help to discover budding talents.
“I think it is a brilliant idea to host such a football festival in Nigeria. I will also ensure that my academy based in Cameroon will be part of this festival.
“The Eko Football festival is a platform to discover talented footballers for the future as this programme will present them the opportunity to exhibit their skills and also meet with people from other parts of the
world. Once again, I must commend Eko Football for this laudable initiative,” the South Africa 2012 World Cup star enthused.
In his response, the Chairman, Lagos State Football Association, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi thanked the defensive ace for finding time to pay the Lagos FA a courtesy visit.
He however assured that Ekofootball would not relent in its efforts to give hope to the budding talents in Africa and beyond.
The Assou-Ekotto Academy has joined the youth teams of Sunderland FC, Supersport United, Marcel Desailly Academy that have indicated their interest to participate in the Ekofootball Festival.
