Sweden-based duo of Perpetua
Nkwocha and Helen Ukaonu departed the Super Falcons camp after the
team's 4-0 victory over the Mighty Warriors of Zimbabwe.
Nkwocha, who scored the first
goal for Nigeria at the Teslim Balogun stadium on Saturday, will play a
match for her club, Sunnana SK, barely 24 hours after playing for the
Super Falcons.
“I have
to play a match for my club tomorrow (Sunday). It is going to be
stressful but I have go help my team because if we fail
to win we will go down to 2nd position and we cannot afford that.
“My presence there means a
lot to them so I have to go back and play.”
In her second appearance for
the Falcons under coach Kadiri Ikhana, the striker spoke highly of the
former CAF Champions League winning coach, saying that his style of play
has given a new look to the Falcons.
“We played fantastic football today I have to
give all the credit to the coach.
“The team is now playing at a very fast pace and
that was very evident today. We really took on Zimbabwe especially in
the first half because of our speed. We closed them down very quickly
and our fitness worked in our favor.”
“I got a bit
tired because we had to push and get our goals early on which was
exactly what we did and I thank God that we were able to play to the
coaches instructions.
“I believe in coach Ikhana and I believe we will
achieve great things with him.”
Nigeria has won six African Women’s Championship
titles but failed to make it past the semi-finals in 2008 in Equatorial
Guinea. Nkwocha assures that the Falcons are ready to make amends when
they return to the country in November.
“A lot of things worked against us in Equatorial
Guinea in 2008, especially the pitch but I believe that we will be
better prepared this time.
“I believe that we will go there and win the
title we failed to win there 4 years ago."
Helen Ukaonu who was used as a
second-half substitute also left the
Falcons camp on Saturday night and will feature for her club, Sunnana
SK, alongside Nkwocha, in a league match on Sunday
