Players Yearn For More As Lagos Table Tennis League Enters Week Five

Players taking part in the weekly Lagos State table tennis league believes staging more of such competition would surely help them to improve their skills even as the tourney enters week five this Thursday.
According to the Shola Oyetayo of Union Bank Sports Club, the league would surely help the table tennis players and most importantly the Lagos team for the national sports festival.
Oyetayo said: “Personally this competition is timely and I am happy to be part of the championship because it would give me the opportunity to be fit and I am happy to say that every week I am able to learn and gain a lot from this competition. It will also prepare me for the national sports festival and I believe that with proper training the Lagos team will record success.”
With Union Bank dominating proceedings at the tournament, Bolaji Asekun of J30, however, lauded the organisers of the league, adding that playing regularly would add valuue to his desire of becoming a professional ping pongers and also sharpen his style of playing.
“I give kudos to the organizers and the sponsor of this competition and I am happy to say it loudly that so far, my assessment of this championship is excellent. I love table tennis and my ambition is to become national champion,” he said.
He added: “This competition will make me to be fit for the challenges at the NSF coming up later this year. With this competition, I am very sure that Lagos will dominate the medals at NSF. I urge the sponsor to please keep it up.”
While urging the sponsor not to relent in staging the event, said the weekly event would give the state's table tennis players an advantage to dominate the medals table when the EKO 2012 Games begins in November.
For the skipper of the Springfresh Club, Ayo Omotara, winning four gold medals at the 18th National Sports Festival remains, as the league would put him in good shape for the festival.
“I am participating in this competition to improve myself and I see it as a privilege playing with other table tennis players from Union Bank Club. Also, I am using this competition to prepare myself for the NSF and my ambition is to win at least four gold medals,” Omotara said.
Omotara, whose father was a former national champion, said taking part in the league has indeed improved his confidence.
