It was a fierce contest between Ekiti and Osun States Handball teams in the maiden edition of Sam Ocheho Invitational Handball Championship at the Sportshall of the Lagos State Sports Council, Rowe Park, Yaba.
The Osun State Handball team had every opportunity to win the match following the team's superb performance in the early minute of the encounter with Esan Oluwaseun, the team's captain motivating his colleagues to early lead before the Ekiti team showed that they are a force to reckon with.
Ekiti handball team won the first set at the end of the first half, 11 - 10, but the team did not relent on its oars to records victory to stand chance to move to the next round but their dream was shattered as the match ended 24 - 24 apiece in an exciting game that aroused the interest of teeming handball fans.
In other matches played,Lagos State, Team B lost to Ogun State Handball team, 23 - 25 as Team Ondo also defeated Osun Hadnball team, 18 - 16 in the male categories.
Delta State female squad dealt with the Lagos Team B, which comprises of veteran handball players who had represented the state at the National League, National Sports Festival by closing the match 19 - 11.
The veterans are Rose Onyeziri, Ijeoma Soribe, Fatoki Iroka, Jane Udofa, Magdalene, Julie Kalu among others.
Lagos,Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Delta States are featuring in the One week competition while Kogi,Oyo and Kwara State could not participate owing to finance.
