After the eliminations of over 400 teams in round one, stage is now set for the second stanza of season five of this year’s MTN Lagos Street Soccer Championship with 350 teams expected to compete for places in the next stage of the competition.
The teams have been drawn into 72 groups with the two top teams progressing to the third round of the championship.
21 centres across Lagos will host the matches holding this weekend with top teams like Lawal Akapo, Raymond Streets among others targeting their places in the next stage of the competition.
According to the Local Organising Committee (LOC), the first round witnessed exciting matches with teams like Raymond Street thrilling fans at the Elegbata Playground with their exceptional skills.
However, for the first time in the history of the competition, a winner between two teams was decided by the toss of coin at the Oshodi Centre after Mushin’s Shounoye and Alimosho’s Future teams were tied after the first round matches.
With the winner of the group already decided, Shounoye and Future were later tied on points, goal difference and fouls to finish second.
To decide the team that will progress to the next stage, the coaches of the teams, Taiwo Onafowokan and Samuel Olaosun had to agree to decide the match through tossing of coin and it was Coach Olaosun’s Future Street that won the tossing to move to the second round of the championship.
