Chika Chukwumerije Keep Silence On Rio 2016

Captain of Team Nigeria to the London 2012 Olympic Games, Chika Chukwumerije, has urged the National Sports Commission,NSC, to initiate a progressive and intensive training programmes ahead of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

 "I keep moving, i do not spend two years analyzing a tournament after being defeated.The next week, i started training, i keep moving.Nigeria, we must do same.Am not going into the details, you guys know that, he said"

 "As i speak, tournaments have already started, international meets, athletes, swimmming, Basketball.People who competed at the London 2012 Games are already competing in international competitions.For the athletes to to the coaches, lets just start something.It might not be smooth but as we think out, the strategy for the future.From now, this short term plan, workshop, equipment and donation.Lets st start doing something.We cannot just stay where we are"

 Chukwumerije, who believed that he had disappointed teeming Nigerian sports fans for not wining an medal at the just concluded Games in London as well as other athletes to the event,said reflecting on the woeful outing at the Games would not bring forth good fortune to the nation as there is urgent and surgical need to start planning for the Rio 2016 Games.

 "After the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, i normally take three to six moths to just reflect and ask myself, do you have the capacity to go on?You must be passionate about what you do.If you cannot commit the next three to four years of your life to prepare for real, please do not go for the Games.Have not make the decision".

The Beijing 2008 Bronze medalist, said some of the athletes who competed at the Games had been competing in series of international meets preparatory to the 2016 Games, stressing that his foundation through its competitions,National Sports Festival and other Taekwondo events would continue to beam its search light on young talented athletes who could compete at the next two editions of the Olympic Games.

Chukwumerije, who declined to give details of what was responsible for the woeful outing at the London Olympic Games, said his performance at the Games was far better than when featured at the Beijing Olympic Games despite wining a Bronze medal based on the technical input of his Korean coach who exposed him to modern Tekwondo training programmes.

 "Yes, if you watched mu figt in London and compare to Beijing.I was a lot better, i was composed.The preparation was fantastic.I will continue to work with the coach.It is the responsibility of the National Sports Commission to retain the coach because Nigeria would be losing a lot of things because he has gained Olympic experience.

"He has learned how to handle the administration of Nigerian Taekwondoists.We have assess to the best of Korean Taekwondo Association with the donation of electronic equipment"

He advised the National Sports Commission,NSC not to disengage the service of the Korean coach who according to him assisted him and Isah to acquire electronic Teakwondo equipment donated by the Korean Taekwondo Federation to aid them to excel.

 "Am still recovering from the 201 Olympic Games.So i have to search within in few months and see, tell myself, am i still willing to compete on Rio 2016 Olympic Games.If i see that i cannot show that level of commitment then, i won't go.he explained.
