No Excuses For Failure At Eko 2012, Says Adenekan.

Overwhelmed by the huge support the team has been getting from the Lagos State Government, Chairman, Lagos State Wrestling Association, Prince Fatai Adenekan has said that the athletes would not disappoint during the 18th National Sports Festival tagged Eko 2012.

Specifically, Adenekan said that coaches and athletes would not have excuses for failures considering the support they have been given by the government for them to excel.

Speaking at the end of the three-day inter-club championship, the chairman said that aside the athletes, there have been regular grant from the government for the association to organize competitions.

With this, he said that the coaches and athletes have resolved to reciprocate the government’s gesture by ensuring that the wrestling team dominates the medals’ table at the festival come November. He admitted that with much exposure to the athletes, the state has the wherewithal to perform creditably well at sports festival.

Okulomo Samuel, who is expected to represent Lagos State at the festival in the 60kg category, boasted that he is confident of winning gold, as he has been training hard to keep fit for the festival.

He said: “With proper training and State government support, the sky is the limit for us athletes to win laurel for Lagos State at the Sports Festival.

 I want to thank Governor Babatunde Fashola for the payment of monthly allowances to athletes and also for the payment of open camp allowances and this singular gesture, I strongly believe will enable us to perform better at the festival”.

Five wrestling clubs in Lagos State participated in the tournament and the teams were Angels Club, Nobles Club, Maltraka Club and Kirikiri Club with Maltracka Wrestling Club emerged the overall winner while Laofem Club came second and Kirikiri Club finished third.
