Capkovoc, Nina In Bright Start As Abinu, Omoile Crash Out

The duo of Slovak Kmil Capkovic and Russian Nina Bratchikova justified their rating in the 12th Governor's Cup Lagos Tennis Championship as they won their respective first round matches in the Main Draws of Futures 1 of the competition Tuesday.

Capkovic, top seed in the Men's Singles beat Maxine Chazal of France in two straight sets of 6-1, 6-3, while Grand Slams player, Bratchikova saw off Nigeria top women player, Fatimah Abinu in an easy fight that ended 6-1,6-1.

Other Nigerian who were still in the fixtures failed in their bid to progress in the FCMB Plc and Etisalat Nigeria- sponsored ITF approved tourney as they were bundled out. Samuel Omoile fell 2-6, 1-6 to Egyptian Ka rim-Mohammed Maamoun, John Otu was stopped by Japanese Kento Takechi in 6-1,6-1 game.

In other results, South African Ruan Roelofse beat Uzebkstian Vega Uzakov 6-0,6-0, Portuguese Andre Gaspar Murta defeated German Mario Eckadt 6-4, 6-1.

In what happened to be the longest match of the tournament that lasted 4hours 15minutes, German Jasmine Steinherr had a good fight to dislodge Slovak Anna Prislan in 6-7,6-4,7-6 game.

Egyptian Karin Hossam beat Zimbabwe's Mark Lynn, while another Egypt star, Sheriff Sabry defeated Jose-Ricardo Nunez of Portugal 7-6, 6-4.

In the women's category, Israeli Valerie Patuk beat Dallas Jakupovic 7-6,3-6,7-6, American Riley Alexandra who is nursing a knee injury lost to Russian Alexandra Romanova 0-6,1-6.

In some doubles results, the duo of Abdumumini Babalola and Bolaji Olawepo of Nigerian beat compatriots Sani Adamu and Henry Atseye 6-3, 7-5, while the pairs of Abidemi Olanrewaju Adebisi and Ganiyu Yusuff of Nigeria lost to Michael-Bay Pllares-Gonzales and Murphy Parker of USA in 6-4,6-0 match.
