From November 27 to 29, the screening for the beauty pageant contest for the 18th National Sports Festival tagged Eko 2012, holds in Lagos.
According to the LOC Secretary General, Kweku Tandoh, the uniqueness of the competition being organised by Xmedia was what prompted the LOC to embrace the event. He added that the exercise was a departure from the common beauty pageant being staged across the country.
“When Xmedia, specialist in putting together beauty pageant in the country approached the LOC for this programme, we quickly embraced it because of its uniqueness and had to endorse it because it is different from most pageants being staged in this country. It is going to have national outlook as it is not for Lagosians alone but for Nigerians regardless of their state of origin,” Tandoh said.
He said LOC would continue to support programmes that would promote the ideals of the festival as well as showcase the tourism potentials of Lagos to visitors during the championship.
Managing Director, Xmedia, Tunde Lawrenson said the exercise is distinct and to be eligible to participate, such female individuals must be between 18-25 years of age, while the form can be purchased at N3000 at all Zenith Bank branches across the country.
“We want to do something unique that will give every participants the ability to be socially responsible even after the contest.
We would allow any individual with tattoo to take part in the competition and we will make it like a reality show where the contestants will be housed for some days and they will be exposed to lots of things like going to venues of the festival working with various Lagos State agencies and taking up some responsibilities during the contest.
We want to ensure that we have a true queen that will be socially responsible after being crowned the champion,” Lawrenson said.
For the chairman, Marketing and Sponsorship Sub-Committee, Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas, the national outlook of the pageant would help to drive the competition with the hope that it would provides an opportunity for youths to unite during the 13-day sports fiesta.
The screening for contestants would hold on November 27 to 29 in Lagos while the grand finale will come up on December 7.
