The Team Lagos football team will on Monday begin their search
for the elusive soccer gold medal when they take on the Kastina state
counterpart at Onikan Stadium, Lagos by 4:00pm.
The
18th National Sports Festival will officially
begin with the opening ceremony tomorrow while the football event starts
today
with Adamawa state battling Plateau in the group A for the first match
of the
day, by 8:00am.
While Delta State confront Abia state in the second
match of
the day by 10:00am, after which Eko football team will play the last
match of
the day in group A against Kastina State.
In the Women’s category holding at the
Agege Stadium,
Adamawa State will confront Ogun State in the first match in group A by
8:00am,
it will be the turn of Edo and Imo State by 12 noon, with Team Lagos
playing
Kaduna in the last match of the day.
Speaking after the draws, conducted by
Sola Ogunnowo of the Nigeria football
federation at the NFF Liaison office at Ogunlana Drive, Surulere, Lagos, on Sunday, Dotun Coker, board member of the Lagos State Football
Association said
the state was ready for any opposition.
“We have
prepared adequately for this event, so we are ready for any
team, we plan is to win the two gold medals available for this event and
we
must win, we must be ready to play any team, to be a champion you have
to be
the best and this what we are working towards”, Coker who heads
the
Technical committee of the LSFA stated.
However, Frank Ilaboya, vice chairman
of Edo State FA was
also talking tough, saying they are in Lagos to pick the women’s gold
medal, “By
the grace of God we shall picked the women’s gold medal for the sports
loving
people of Edo State”. He said.
