The National Youth Council of Nigeria has applauded the President of
Nigeria Football Federation, Aminu Maigari, for the superlative
performances of all the National Teams since the beginning of this year.
In
the letter, signed by Chike Favour who heads the Directorate of Sports
at NYCN, attributed the Eagles outstanding performance at the last
concluded African Cup of Nations to the Association's doggedness and
sincere commitment to the development of football in Nigeria.
He
added that the team was able to achieve the feat because the Association
maintained zero tolerance in the technical crew’s selection of the
team.
The National Youth Council of Nigeria, an umbrella body
that coordinates and supervises the activities of all youth
organizations in Nigeria under the executive supervision of the Federal
Ministry of Youth
Development, is an affiliate of Pan-African Youth Union and World
Assembly of Youths.
In February, the Super Eagles lifted the
Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, for the first time in 19 years
and for only the third time that Nigeria would emerge victorious in the
competition’s 56-year history.
In March, the Flying Eagles
finished third at the 12th African Youth Championship in Algeria to
qualify as one of Africa’s flag-bearers at the FIFA Under 20 World Cup
Turkey 2013, and last month.
The Golden Eaglets finished as
runners-up at the 10th CAF Under 17 Championship in Morocco, also
qualifying as one of Africa’s representatives at the FIFA Under 17 World
Cup UAE 2013.
