Nigeria's Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has congratulated the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria for qualifying for the final of the ongoing FIFA Under 17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirate by beating the Swedish team 3-0.
The Minister who was at the stadium in the UAE to personally support the team said he was impressed by the performance put up by the boys, noting that their consistency and mastery of the game was amazing.
“I was really impressed by the performance of the boys. It was a delight to watch them beat Sweden; this is certainly Nigeria’s senior team of the future,” he said.
He further stated that the team had proven that it has the character and depth to win the trophy, and obviously no team can stop them. “I don’t see Mexico stopping this team in the final. I believe they have sufficiently demonstrated that they have what it takes to win the trophy.
“One amazing quality these boys have is that they can raise their game when the situation demands it. This is no ordinary Nigerian side. The team is exceptional and their expected victory would be a good end-of-the-year gift to His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for his support and abiding commitment to the sports sector, Abdullahi stated.
The Minister had travelled to the UAE earlier this week to personally talk to the players and boost their morale. He took with him as guest Kanu Nwankwo, arguably the most successful Nigerian footballer ever, to also cheer and support the players
