Sixty one years old Tony Nwabueze fondly called Tony Destroyer has been adjudged the winner of the 3rd edition of BRF Wrestlemania which was concluded on Sunday night at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos .

Tony Destroyer, who hails from Delta State, used his 35 years in the ring to win the Royal Rumble bout of the tournament staged in honour of the Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola as he stood tall as the last man standing in a bout involving no fewer than 10 wrestlers in the ring.

An elated Tony Destroyer, said he was pronounced winner of the fight that he found the Royal Rumble an easy duel because other nine wrestlers were no match for him.

“This was a great night for me,” said the former soldier who turned professional in 1980. “It was easy for me to win this fight because all other contenders in the Royal Rumble cannot withstand me,” he said.

In other bouts of third night of the BRF Wrestlemania which had started since Friday,  Antom Ant-Ozoghe defeated Young Mike, while Nigeria Wrestling Federation, NWF, light heavyweight king, Young Stamina was too good for Dangerous Angle.

It was easy for Captain Thunder to knock out Kingstone in a one sided fight. Sparkling Angel from Sierra Leone cannot sparkle against Congo DR’s Tya Mupepe.

The heavyweight fight between Iron Scatter and Big Fish ended in a stalemate, De Blaze showed her superiority over Living Star in one of the ladies fight. African women champion, Tina Terror defeated her arch rival, Lady Bunmi. Zion Lion’s fight against Golden Power was disqualified, so also was the duel between USA Bins and Sharpman.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, LOC, Primate Charles Odugbesi, hailed the wrestlers for the patience they had with the organisers as the tournament supposed to have been held in December, adding that effort will be made to source for funds outside the support they have been receiving from Governor Fashola in the last three years of the competition.

“We plan to involve the Nigerian youth in the next edition of this competition through the Nigeria Pro Wrestling Federation. We believe exposing the youth to this game at the grassroots will help in the development of the sport,” he said.

Coordinator of the competition, Prince Hammed Olanrewaju Mohammed thanked Governor Fashola for the faith he has in the LOC by giving his support as at when due.

“On behalf of these wrestlers, I want to thank our dear Governor for his support. This tournament, since the first edition, has helped some of our wrestlers to further their career abroad,” he said.
