Nigeria's Sports Minister, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has commiserated with the family of Prince Adegboyega Adedoyin who passed on recently at the ripe age of 91.

Adedoyin was the first Nigerian-born athlete to participate in the Olympic Games in 1948, representing Britain in several sports including high and long jumps.

On completing his medical course in the United Kingdom, Adedoyin returned to Nigeria where he led the Nigerian team in several international athletic competitions against Ghana and other countries.

After retiring from active participation in sports, Adedoyin officiated for years and mentored younger athletes.

“He was no doubt a great sportsman who contributed greatly to the development of sports in Nigeria,” Abdullahi said. “The sporting community and indeed the nation at large will no doubt miss him I commiserate with his family on this great loss.”
