Cowrie RFC and Racing RFC
have both arrived Dubai for
this weekend’s Dubai Rugby Sevens Tournament to be held at The 7s Stadium in
Al-Ain. Cowrie RFC will be competing as ‘CMB Building Maintenance &
Investment Co. Ltd’ whom is their main sponsor.
Racing RFC had the
upper hand when both teams met in the plate final back in the year 2012
although Racing played hired foreign professional athletes against a full home
grown CMB Building side. It was a different game entirely the following year as
CMB Building which consisted of home grown players won the same plate after
beating UR7s Academy from the UK 14-12.
Speaking
on arrival in Dubai, Coach of CMB Building, Joseph Ofoha expressed his happiness
over the reception on arrival which has gone a long way to make the players
feel at home. He told journalists on ground that the club is in Dubai not for
sightseeing but to exceed their plate success recorded last year.
The Technical Director of
the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation ‘Fasimoye Olatunji’ who is currently in
Dubai to witness and motivate the Nigeria teams was elated that both clubs are frequent
and are recognized as top contenders in the competition.
‘It is a good thing
we have Nigerian teams out here representing and doing the country proud. This
year, I strongly believe both teams will do us proud’ they will both be
competing in the International Men Open category of the tournament.
Fasimoye expressed
displeasure at Racing RFC management' stance to continue relying on hired professional
players for the championship rather than sticking with their players registered
for the South West Rugby league and independent 7s.
He revealed that Racing
will be competing with hired foreign athletes while CMB Building still maintains
their indigenous local athletes.
The tournament which will
kick off on the 4th of December will see Racing RFC playing in Pool C against Pyrenees 7s, OSC Rugby
and Move One Rhinos
While CMB Building will be playing
in Pool B alongside Moosa Daly Wild
Geese, UR7s and Hunters 7s.
