ITTF Africa Senior Championships: Egypt Beats Nigeria To Gold medals.

Host – Egypt on Sunday defeated Nigeria to clinch the gold medals in the team events of the ongoing International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Africa Senior championship in Cairo.

 In the final of the women event, the Egyptian team came from 2-0 down to defeat Nigeria 3-2, while Aruna Quadri’s prowess could not save the men team from losing 3-2 to the North Africans as well in the men’s event.

Unlike in previous tournaments when the Egyptians would run riot over Nigeria but this year it was not same story as Nigerian players fought well to narrow the gap between the two countries.

 In the three events that Nigeria had featured the Aruna Quadri-inspired team had won two silver medals and a bronze medal in the mixed doubles event. Quadri remains unbeaten in the tournament as he has won all his matches without dropping any so far.

 As the host, Egypt still dominate with two gold medals while the colour of the third medal is yet to be known until the final of the mixed doubles against Congo Brazzaville is concluded on Tuesday January 27.

 As Monday January 26 will be observed as rest day for the teams, the tournament enters individual events on Tuesday January 27 with the doubles events, while the singles event will serve off on Wednesday January 28.

Four more titles are still at stake in the tournament which ends on Thursday January 29. Over 17 countries are taking part in the competition, which serves as qualification for the World Championships in China in April.
