Players and officials of Ethiopian club, Dedebit FC flew into Lagos on Thursday afternoon without pre-informing their CAF Confederation Cup first round, first leg hosts, Warri Wolves FC.
The delegation was three hours into the flight from Addis Ababa before an official of the Ethiopia Football Federation made a phone call to the NFF’s Assistant Director (Communications), Ademola Olajire that the team was about to land in Lagos.
Several phone calls were made and arrangements put in place to receive them, avoiding what could have been an embarrassment.
The delegation was then flown to Benin as all flights to Warri were fully booked.
Warri Wolves FC, 4-0 winners over Racing Club Bobo-Dioulasso of Burkina Faso in the preliminary round, take on Dedebit FC on Saturday at the Warri City Stadium.
Nigeria’s other CAF Confederation Cup flagbearers, Dolphins FC are in Tunisia for a first round, first leg clash with Club Africain.
In the CAF Champions League, Enyimba FC host Smouha FC of Egypt at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba on Sunday. The two –time champions bundled out Buffles du Borgu of Benin Republic in the earlier round.
The Confederation of African Football has moved the first round, first leg fixture involving Nigerian champions Kano Pillars FC and Maghreb Athletic Tetouan of Morocco to next weekend, after five players of the Kano club were injured in an armed robbery attack last week, and the NFF appealed to CAF to shift the away match.
