Over one hundred Primary school pupils from Oyo State will participate
in the maiden edition of Gabel Youth Judo Training Camp slated for
Ibadan, Oyo - State, in a date yet to be fixed.
According to the
camp initiator, Oteje Olugbenga Abel, the exercise which is a Judo
grassroot programme, is geared at re-introducing Judo to the sport to
Primary Schools pupils with the view of exposing the kids to the basic
rudiments of the sport.
Oteje, explained that the camp would be
handled by Coach, Dickson Egbewon, a former National coach that took
Team Nigeria to the Athens Olympic Games and Coach, Ewa Ekuta, a member
of the coaching crew to the All African Games in Algiers.
Oteje,
who is a seasoned judoka that has represented Nigeria at different
international meets and games, such as the Commonwealth Games,African
championships, Lagos International tournament, British open Judo
tournament, has also featured in many national champions for several
years as a Lagos state athlete.
The camp iniator,said the Oyo
State Ministry of Education the state's Universal Basic Education Board
to make available primary schools pupils for the clinic as former
chairman of Lagos State Sports Council, Deji Tinubu and Chairman of
Lagos State Scrabble Association, Dayo Alao, among sports
philanthropists who are supporting the project.
While thanking
Nestle Nigeria Plc and other corporate bodies that are supporting the
programme with their products,Oteje, believed, that the camp would help
to build new crop of Judo athletes who could be Nigeria's and Africa's
future champions
