Registration Opens for Lagos SWAN Cup, 2015

The Sports Committee of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Lagos Chapter, has announced Winners Golden Bet as the main sponsor of the 2015 edition of the Lagos SWAN Cup competition and has fixed July 24 as the kickoff of the event.

The SWAN Cup is designed to engage sports journalists on the sports desks of the various media organisation in Lagos with a view to promoting active participation in sports, healthy living and camaraderie among sports media practitioners.

Arising from its meeting on Wednesday, July 1, the committee said it has opened the collection of forms for all interested sports desks at a flat rate of N2000 obtainable at the secretariat of the association.

Chairman of the committee, Debo Oshundun, revealed that the opening ceremony of the weeklong event to be held at the Legacy Pitch, National Stadium, Lagos, will see a team of veteran sports writers and editors square up against ex internationals to herald what promises to be an action packed, fun-filled week which shall also feature free medical checkups and health talks for the benefit of members and their families.

Oshundun also informed that the week will also feature the annual "SWAN seminar on the future of our sports" which is being organized this year in partnership with the Nigerian Sports Awards, NSA.  Tentatively scheduled for July 29, the seminar shall draw high profile personalities in the sports and media industries to address the two topics of "Funding sports in Nigeria" and "Maintaining integrity in sports reportage."

The 2015 Lagos SWAN Cup also introduces a one day Tug of War competition by the side to provide more space inclusion and excitement for members and entertainment of sports fans.

While calling on well meaning Nigerians and corporate bodies to support and partner Lagos SWAN with the attendant benefits of huge media exposures, the chairman of the committee also enjoined all members and the sports desks of all media houses in Lagos to join in the fun for interaction and recreation pointing out that and interaction "all work and no play makes jack a dull boy."
