The Super Eagles hearkened to the charge of NFF President Amaju Pinnick to rise to the occasion with gusto, spanking the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 3-0 in an international friendly in Brussels on Sunday.
The Eagles dominated with panache and could have been two goals up before defender Efe Ambrose rose highest in the six-yard to nod past Fabrice Ondoua off a free –kick by John Mikel Obi for Nigeria’s first in the 39th minute.
Cameroon’s task was made more difficult early in the second half when captain Stephane Mbia earned a deserved second yellow card and depleted the Lions.
Yet, Nigeria’s quality and passion was never in doubt, and speedy winger Moses Simon got a second (and his second goal for Nigeria at senior level) when he rounded the Cameroonian defence after a delightful Ahmed Musa pass, and shot brilliantly past Ondoua.
The Super Eagles were impressive on the turf of the Edmond Machtens Stadium, banishing memories of the defeat to Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday with a marvelous response.
Given their distinct superiority, it was not surprise when England –based Odion Ighalo got Nigeria’s third (and his own second goal at senior level) with a powerful header off an inviting pull –out by Elderson Echiejile.
