The
final leg of the 2015 Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Championship began on
a rather bad note for some Nigerian players in the first day of the
Main Draws at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan on Monday.
Unlike
in the first leg (Future 3) where we had some sparkles from few of the
local stars who made it to the second round and even quarter final,
those players who were on parade in the first round of the second leg
(Futures 4) were sent packing in their respective matches against highly
experienced foreign players.
Thomas
Out was beaten by number two seed in the men's singles, South African
Harris Llyod in 0-6,2-6 game. Number three seed from Zimbabwe, Takanyi
Garanganga was too much for Edward Christopher Anefu in straight set of
6-2,6-2.
In
the women’s singles, Patience Onebamhoin was easily beaten by number
eight seed from India, Prarthana Thombare in 0-6,0-6 match.
Nigerian-born Russian player, Melissa Ishua Ifidzhen defeated Sabath
Ibrahim in 6-1,6-luv game. Osariemen Airhunmwunde fell to Ushua Suhail of
Pakistan in luv - 6, 1- 6 game. Ben McLachlan from New Zealand beat Christain
Paul 6 - 2,6 - 1.
In
other results, Ester Masuri of Israel failed to fly past Norwegian
Ulrikke Eikeri in 1-6,1-6 match, China's Xiaoxi Zhao beat Slovakia's
Nina Kolar 6 -1,6 - 0.
Number six seed, Margarita Lazareva of Russia beat
Eden D’Oliveira fromSouth Africa 6-4,6-4. Daughter of Zimbabwe Tennis
Federation president, Valeria Bhunu who was one of the runners up in
the women's doubles final in the first leg last week, beat Riley
Alexandia of USA in straight set of 6-2,6-0 all in the women's singles.
Spanish Aaron Cortes Alcarez defeated Gnana's Tsatsu Kofi Segbedzie 6-0,6-1 he men singles.
Other matches of the first round continue on Tuesday at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan
