NFF President Amaju
Pinnick will be in the VIP box when the Nigeria U-23, Dream Team, tackles their
Egyptian counterparts at the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Mbour, Senegal on
Wednesday.
The Nigeria Football
Federation has reiterated its delight with the team’s 3-2 opening win over Mali
on Sunday, as well as determination to support the team to win a ticket to the
men’s football tournament of next year’s Olympics.
A win over Egypt on Wednesday
will guarantee the 1996 Olympic champions a place in the semi finals, with
victory in that semi final enough to earn a place at the Rio de Janeiro
festival. Only the three top finishers in Senegal will fly Africa’s flag in
Rio.
“We have a team strong
enough to qualify for the Olympics. Samson Siasia has been doing a marvelous
job and the NFF will not relent in giving him all the support necessary to win
the ticket, and ultimately, the championship,” NFF General Secretary, Dr.
Mohammed Sanusi, said on Tuesday.
The Dream Team perch
above Group B with three points, with Egypt and Algeria on one apiece, and Mali
pointless.
The Egyptians have
promised to come out firing from all cylinders when the match kicks off at the
Caroline Faye Stadium, but Siasia, who won Nigeria a silver medal in the men’s
football tournament of the 2008 Olympics in China, has maintained that he is
taking it one match at a time.
