FIFA and CAF instructors, Adegboye Onigbinde, has said that the inability of Super Eagles Technical Adviser,Lars Lagerback, to assemble the players two months to the FIFA World Cup in South Africa could jeopardise the team's performance in the tournament.
Onigbinde, said virtually nothing is happening with the team two months after Lagerback was appointed as the team's technical adviser.
The NFF technical consultant, said Lagerback could make still make an impact at the World Cup if he is well endowed on the modern techniques of football, adding that he used the short cut in modern football when he handled barely new Super Eagles with two months to the 2002 World Cup
The former Super Eagles handler,said Lagerback should first consider how to build the players to become a virile team and not friendly matches, adding that two months to the South Africa 2010 World Cup no member of the team are on ground for the soccer championship.
The former Shooting Stars Coach, said Nigeria's fire brigade attitude is affecting the growth of football, stressing that one football season for World Cup is four years while one football season for African Nations Cup is two years, thus Nigeria have four years to prepare for the world cup.
He said the standard of football in Nigerian would continue to have problem until Nigeria Football Federation have a change of attitude and embraces modern way of running football, adding that the world have respect for Nigeria because of the abundance of talents but there are no viable structures to transform the talents into a better product.
"i had barely two months to prepare a new team for the World Cup in 2002.My first friendly was against Paraguay.In the elimination round Paraguay beat Brazil home and away.There are short cut in football which you can use if you have the experience.In football you need a team not a group of players.If you have stars who are not well blended, the well blended team of mediocre would give them trouble"says Onigbinde.
"FIFA World Cup is just two months and we do not have single player as a member of the Super Eagles on ground.I pray that our fire brigade approach would do us something.I believe that much should have been done"
