
The Oceanic Bank Lagos State Tennis Association Under 18 Competition has entered the second day today as over thirty young tennis players had registered for the tournament which is taking place at the Tennis courts of the Lagos State Sports Council, Rowe Park, Yaba.
Sportsweight.blogspot.com, reports that eight tennis players were seeded in the Boys Singles as ten male tennis players would scale through the preliminary round to play in the main draw.
In some of the matches played on Monday in the Boys Singles, Imaru Balami defeated Micheal Sunday, 6 - 3, 6 - 1 as Emmanuel Adelakun beat Sodiq Ajasa, 6 - 1, 6 - 2.
The Chairman of the State Tennis Association, Akin Adesokan,said the competition was part of thier efforts to encourage the young tennis players to play regularly with a view of improving their skills.
Adesokan, said the competition which is geared at catching the tennis players while they are still young would go a long way in helping Nigeria to produce great tennis players who could make the country rpoud in international tournaments.
He said it was sad that none of the nation's tennis players are featuring in the ATP Tennis Circuit, thus there is need to expose the young players to modern tecniques of the sport.
The LSTA Boss, said they would attract more corporate bodies with a view of providing aenough tennis kits for te tennis players discovered, adding that lack of tennis kits have been the bane of tennis development in Nigeria.
The tournament continues today in the Boys and Ladies Singles as the semi final and the final will be played at the Tennis Court at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere.
