Traditional Sports Fiesta Light Up Oshodi

The train of the resuscitating traditional sports championship moving through the entire local governments and Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State moved to Oshodi/Isolo Local Governments amid pomp and pageantry.

The competition saw participants taking part in Gidigbo-a traditional wrestling game, Ayo Olopon, Ludo, Draughts and Ram Charging.

At the end of the keenly contested tourney, a total sum of N165, 000 were given out as prize money to winners of different sports.

Saminu Akubu from Afari-Ogun, Oshodi won gold medal in Ayo Olopon with the sum of N15, 000 as Chief Odofin Adeoba from Mafoluku won silver medal and N10, 000 just as the bronze medal went to Olukayode Okegbile from Ilasamaja and the sum of N5, 000.

In Draughts, Dele Nathaniel from Afariogun won the gold medal and the star prize, Nnamdi Nobody from Oshodi and Prince Jawara from Mafoluku won silver and bronze medals respectively.

Tamari Musa from Isolo won Gidigbo fight, while Saidu Umar from Oshodi and Ibika Keku from Isolo came second and third respectively.

The game of Ludo was won by Femi Popoola from Oshodi, while Lateef Rafiu from Mafoluku and Mrs. Funmi Babs were second and third respectively.

Oshodi Baby Azuri won the gold medal and cash prize of N25, 000 in Ram charging contest. Barrack Boys from Oshodi came second with a silver medal and the sum of N15, 000, while Oshodi “Drogba” came third with a bronze medal and a cash prize of N7, 500.

The traditional games, organised by Heritage Sports Association in conjunction with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Grassroots Sports Development to Governor Raji Fashola headed by Prince Wale Oladunjoye and Lagos State Traditional Sports Association, was held at Owoseni Primary School, Oshodi.
