The President of Nigeria Swimming Federation, Fatai Williams, has commended the Minister of Sports, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, for the renovation works at the swimming section of the National Stadium, Surulere and other sports facilities at the sports complex.
Williams, the former Chairman f Lagos State Swimming Association, who was elated over the Minister feat to bring back swimming action to Lagos State, said the National Sports Commission has also embark on minor renovation works on the swimming section of the National Stadium, Abuja as the gesture has also trickle down to some states of the Federation.
"Well am happy to say we are making great progress. At the Federal level, the renovation works is already on at the swimming pool in Abuja, they have some minor problem there and they are already working on that even in Lagos at the National Stadium Surulere, the renovation works have started on the 50 meters diving pool".
He said the Government of Ondo State under the Governor Segun Mimiko for commissioning new Olympic Swimming pool in Akure after the project has been abandoned for over thirty year, adding that Delta State has also delve into renovating its swimming pool just as Rivers State would soon complete its swimming pool in readiness for the Sixteenth edition of the National Sports Festival.
"Professor Taoheed Adedoja has moved immediately into action, apart from Federal facilities, we also have state facilities. Last Saturday, i was in Akure for the commissioning of new Olympic Swimming pool in Akure, Ondo State that was done by Mimiko, the Governor himself".
He said the technical committee of the Federation has submitted its training programme ahead of the All African Games in Mozambique to the National Sports Commission for approval, stressing that the Federation would work hard to make Nigeria proud at the tournament
