President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Aminu Maigari on Monday inaugurated the Federation’s Security Committee, charging the members to realize the importance of adequate and well-articulated security plan at every football match played in the country.
While noting that good security network is a prerequisite to a properly organised football match, Maigari, said football was a game of peace but sometimes soccer fans want to bring the game into disrepute through improper, and violent conduct.
“Football is a game of peace but sometimes, you see some people wanting to bring the game into disrepute through improper, and sometimes violent conduct. No match can be said to have been properly organized without good security.
“We have total confidence in you all that you will be able to deliver at all times. You are also free to co-opt persons that you think can add value to what we are doing. Security is at the forefront of football organization and we will give you adequate support to carry out your programmes’”, said Maigari.
Responding, chairman of the committee, Chief Effiong Johnson pledged that the members would be ready at all times to work hard for the maintenance of security at international football games. “We will also work hand-in-hand with security committees in the different States of the Federation to ensure adequate security at all football matches played in the country.
“There is a need to greatly sensitize our people, especially ball fans and also enlighten them on the consequences of some actions they take. We will endeavour to do this”.
The NFF Security Committee also has as members Assistant Commissioner of Police Gideon Akinsola, Barrister Sajo Mohammed, Colonel Gary Usman (rtd) and Mr. Teddy Isiadinso.
The secretary is Mr. Christian Emeruwa.
