A Thanksgiving Service was held in Jos on Sunday to appreciate Almighty God for the safe release of father of Nigeria international midfielder, John Mikel Obi.
The elder Michael Obi was kidnapped in Jos on Friday, August 22 on his way home from work and the abductors kept him for 10 days before they were caught by the long arms of the law, in the ancient city of Kano.
In appreciation of God’s mercies, which ensured that Obi Senior was freed unharmed, the family gathered together at the St Mary’s Catholic Church, Jos on Sunday to offer thanksgiving.
They were joined by the 1st Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Chief Michael Okeke Umeh, a former Team Manager of the Senior National Team, as well as another NFF Executive Committee member, Mr. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande.
Officials of the Plateau State Football Association, led by the chairman, Mr. Sunday Longbap were also at the church service to give glory to the Most High.
“We thank Almighty God for His mercies in ensuring the safe release of Mr Michael Obi Senior, and we also have to thank Him that the old man was not harmed by the kidnappers.
“Mikel is a key actor in the Senior National Team of Nigeria and our joy is that this unfortunate saga is over so that he would now be able to fully concentrate his mind on club and country duties”, said Umeh.
