The Public Affairs Section of the United States Consulate has presented basketball kits worth over a million naira to the Lagos State Basketball Association ahead of the association's 3 day basketball coaching clinic.
The clinic which is the fourth edition has been scheduled to hold between 28th and 30th of September,2011, at the indoor sports hall of the Mobolaji Johnson, Rowe Park, Yaba.
Peter Piness,the Public Diplomacy Officer of the Public Affairs Section of the United States Consulate, said the consulate was happy to work with the LSBBA to further improve the game of Basketball not only in the state but across the South West zone of Nigeria which comprises of Oyo, Ogun Osun, Ekiti and Lagos States.
Piness, said the gesture would aid easy coaching of the game as it would encourage the participants to adhere to the current techniques of the sport.
The Chairman of LSSBA, Babatunde Ogunade, who thanked the Public Affairs Section of the United States Consulate for paving the way for the growth of the game in South West zone of Nigeria through the donation of basketball kits, said the clinic would help the participants to impact positively to their wards because the clinic would be handled by a Nigerian Canada based basketball player,Professor Patrick Omo- Osagie.
Ogunade, is optimistic that the event would expose the participants to the modern rules of the game,stressing that lack of exposure to modern techniques of basketball coaching is the bane of the sport.
The facilitator, Professor Patrick Omo- Osagie, explained that the clinic would centre on Building a coaches playbook of techniques,tactics and teaching of points through scientific coaching.
Omo Osagie, said he had designed a curriculum for the event that tallied with the clinic's theme, "basketball coaching the way forward", stressing that his teaching would focus on scientific approach to basketball coaching.
Secretary of the LSSBA, Uthman Ola Okunnu, said over 150 participants would feature in the event.
