Adeyemi Bero Promises Outstanding Performance At EKO 2012 Games.

Lagos State Tennis Association, LSTA, is optimistic that the state's tennis players to the EKO 2012 Games in November, will record excellent performance to place them top of the sports medals table.

LSTA Chairman, Adewunmi Adeyemi Bero, who made this statement onStaurday at the final of the Association's closed championship, said they had concluded plans to organise regular tournaments to prepare their wards for the Games and also to keep them fitter ahead of the event.

Adeyemi Bero, said bulk of the tennis players who would feature at the Games would be made of talented and discipline tennis players who are ready to work hard to excel, stressing that the players would be in camp for a period of six months prior to the Games.

According to him, the association is planning to organize inter - state tennis championship to put their athletes in competition mood as he explained that the state government had resolved to provided adequate welfare packages to the state's athletes to the Games, thus preventing them to be poached by other states.

Ganiyu Yusuf, the former Lagos State number one tennis player, won the tourney after beating Mathew Oviawe by two straight set of 6 - 2, 6 - 4, to grab the sum of sixty thousand naira(N60,000).

Yusuf, who defeated Basil Jacobs, said the need to organise regular tennis competitions is imperative because the state's tennis players would be playing against tougher tennis players and it would augur well if the association could also tactical and technical training programmes.

The tennis player, commended Mathew Oviawe for displaying good tennis artistry that almost pave the way for him to win the second set, stressing that Oviawe stand a chance to win either a Gold or Silver medal at the EKO 2012 Games if he could start rigorous training programme.

Oviawe smiled home with the sum of 30,000 thousand naira as the duo of Basil Jacobs and Benedict David got 20,000 thousand naira each.

In the ladies category, Racheal Akeredolu beat Segun Lesi, 6 - 4, 6 - 4 to get 50,000 thousand naira while Lesi went home with 20,000 thousand naira as the duo of Esther Lasoju and Yetunde Arogundade got 15,000 naira each.
