Fashola Hails Athletes, Teams As Yaba Lifts Trophy At Ibile Games.

Governor, Babatunde Fashola, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the athletes as well as the participating teams, saying that they exhibited sportsmanship spirit throughout the competition.

The Governor urged the teams to put up good fights in subsequent tournaments as he commended the local councils and LCDA chairmen for supporting their various teams to be part of the competition.

Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) showed that they are capable to rule at the Lagos State Sports Festival tagged Ibile Games and to ascertain their intention, the team amassed 158 gold, 104 silver and 99 bronze medals to be crowned the champion at the weekend.

Even when it was obvious that Bariga LCDA and Lagos Island were closing up on Yaba, the team put up a good fight in the final days of the competition to emerge the overall champions.

The efforts of Lagos Island in the athletics event was not even enough to earn them a second place as Bariga finished second behind Yaba with 153 gold, 120 silver and 115 bronze medals.

Despite dominating the track and field event, Lagos Island settled for the third spot with 86 gold, 72 silver and 72 bronze medals, while defending champion, Ibeju-Lekki wriggled its way into the fourth place with 17 gold, 48 silver and 45 bronze medals.
