Following the woeful performance of Team Nigeria at the London 2012 Olympic Games, the President of Nigeria Black Belt College, George Ashiru, has said that lack of financial assistance to Nigerian athletes hampered their zeal to excel at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Ashiru, said the National Sports Commission should be able to assist the athletes with a progressive four years training programme prior to Olympic year, stressing that giving athletes money two months to an international competitions like the Olympic Games would bring the best out of the athletes as they need to have engaged themselves in a long term training programme to earn a medal at the tournament.
He said the National Sports Commission through the National Assembly to institute an established policy of tax refund or tax exemptions for sponsoring sporting activities in to encourage them to stay put with adding values to sports development in Nigeria.
He said Chika Chukwumerije successes in Taekwondo was because he was able to raise finance through sports philanthropists who believed in his programme to excel, adding that the gesture has enable him to train very hard without waiting on any grant from the National Sports Commission.
