Following the woeful outing of Nigerian boxers to the just concluded London 2012 Olympic Games, Gold Fist Boxing Promotions has partnered the Lagos State Amateur Boxing Association,LSBA, to stage a regular Sunday Night Fights.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Gold Fist Boxing Promotions, Tunde Fadipe, who is a passionate boxing promoter, said it was a shame that the country's which earned its first Olympic medal through boxing did not earn any colour of medal at the Games through the pugilist that featured at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Fadipe, believed that the journey to Brazil 2016 Olympic Games should start now, hence the reason his organisation with the support of the LSABA and the office of the Senior Special Assisitant to the Governor on Grassroot Sports Development have resolved to creat an enablng environment for the discovery and regeneration of boxing in the state and Nigeria.
The boxing promoter, said he would embark on short and long term projects where the boxers discovered trough the Sunay Night Fights, an Amateur Boxing Series would be exposed to the nitty gritty of modern boxing facilities, adding that the gesture is geared at keeping them abreast of latest happenings in the sport and also to feature them in series of boxing events.
Fadipe, who claimed that plans are in top gear to build boxing gym in the next five years, assured that the Sunday Night Fights scheduled for second of September,2012 at Hall of Fame, Pinefield Schools Lekki, Christ Avenue,Off Admirality Way,Lekki Phase One, would enable boxing scouts to discover hidden talents, re-train,and encourage them to participate in regular boxing tournaments.
He said the Lagos State Boxing Hall of Fame, the organisers of regular Saturdayboxing Show had performed tremendously beyond expectations in adding values to the sport in Lagos State and the feat was prominent al the last Garden City Games in PortHarcourt, Rivers State, in 2011, adding that Gold Fist Promotion and Lagos State Boxing Hall of Fame would soon become a source of grooming and nurturing future Nigerian pugilists.
