Nigeria's Falconets has been hosted to a dinner by the Nigeria Ambassador to Japan, His Excellency, Godwin Agbo. The reception held on Friday at the Ambassador's official residence which is close to a 45-minute drive from the Hilton Hotel in Tokyo where the team is lodged.
Agbo, in the company of his wife had promised to host the team during a visit to their Royal Pines Hotel in the city of Saitama a day before their second group match against Brazil.
In the gathering, Agbo began by congratulating the girls for their historic win over Mexico in Thursday's quarter final match which went into extra time.
"We were there to support you. No doubt there was tension everywhere when the goals were not coming but that tension turned into victory with the final whistle," said the Ambassador.
"Infact, to let you know how tensed Nigerians were, l was on the phone with the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu who kept asking what the scores were," he said.
His speech was interspersed with jokes and shortly after, members of the team were ushered to the dining table where they were treated to a variety of Nigerian dishes. At the end, the players were reminded of getting the maximum support for next Tuesday's semi final clash against United States of America that would be played at the Tokyo National Stadium.
"We are here to ensure that you get all the necessary backing that will lead to the trophy," he said. Board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and head of delegation, Chief Effiong Johnson, in his closing remarks said the girls were in the frame of mind to lift the trophy.
"After coming close to winning the Cup two years ago, the girls, l can assure you are ready. Once the Cup is lifted the first place would be to bring it to you," said the board member.
