Main Organising Committee, M.O.C, of the Governor's Open Squash Championship has concluded plans to render financial support to the nation's squash players to feature in international Squash circuits.
Its Chairman, Deji Wellington, said the committee had resolved to support Nigeria's Number One Squash player, Taiwo Sodiq, to place his career in a vantage position on the rankings of the international body, stressing that Taiwo had improved tremendously following his performances at the 2011 Squash championahip where he played the World's number 35 Squash player in the final as well this year's edition where he also meet Adrian Grant of Engalnd and number 17 in the world at the final.
Wellington, said Taiwo needed the support of the Committee and Nigerian Squash Federation to elevate his status and also give him a sense of belonging to further project him as thenation's best.
Having realised that Nierian Squash Coaches are bereaved of modern coaching techniques, the Committee's chairman, said they would continue to intensify its training programmes through a Nigerian Canadian based Squash technocrat,Shakiru Mattie to impart necessary skills on the coaches as wella s the squash players.
He believed that grading of squash as category C sports would adversely affect the growth of squash in Nigeria as the Nigerian qash Federation needs the support of the National Sports Commission to accomplish its diverse and dynamic developmental programmes.
